David also highlighted the fact that the cardiac survival rate in Vienna is 58%, yet in London it is only 7%. This is primarily down to European cities having a much higher number of defibrillators in public buildings, offices and in places of public access. There are also more members of the public trained how to use them.
Heart Angels is on a crusade to train more members of the public and install more defibrillators and their stated aim is to increase the cardiac survival rate to 40%. This would save 20,000 lives in London alone, within five years.
